History and Mission
The Jewel Salon was established in September of 1990 with the goal of bringing out and enhancing the beauty of each and every client that walks through the door.
With over 20 years of experience, Jewel West comes from a family of cosmetologists. She grew up in the salon with her aunt, who practiced beauty culture for over 40 years.
And so, after seven years as a stylist in Baltimore City, The Jewel Salon relocated to Randallstown, Maryland, to better serve the community.
With warm, inviting colors, music and atmosphere, the salon’s focus is on healthy hair. After all, every great hairstyle begins with a healthy head of hair.
Hence, we are in the business of making people look and feel good, especially women.
We would also like to educate the client on the importance of healthy hair - and a healthy scalp.
Further, we strive to continue to create a professional and yet comfortable atmosphere, forever pushing the industry standard.
We believe that beauty starts on the inside and - we want to make the client feel good inside and out.
Clearly, we believe in waiting on the client and not having them wait on us. Our plan is to make the experience at The Jewel Salon one you’ll want to repeat over and over again.

I didn’t realize until I received many emails after the first posting that a person being passionate about the arts and politics in equal measure was such a rarity. In fact, I thought it common knowledge that the two were connected indefinitely. I thought it appropriate that this be my post for the year because it will set the platform for the articles that will follow in weeks to come. I was invited to write here because I am an Independent, as I explained before. I am an Independent because of my understanding of America and its purpose. The arts and philosophy have helped to shape those ideas for me just as they did our founding fathers. Read in Full >>
TGR: BET: "Big Ass Chain"? Enough Is Enough!:
BET, in my best estimation, is a profit-driven entity like any other business. However, black America deserves so much more. BET depicts black people as savages with animalistic and materialistic ambitions. BET, from my perspective, condones drug dealing and orgies, popping bottles and partying, and avoids the true beauty of the black experience in America. Somewhere along the line, some industry executives have told our young and beautiful artists that in order to make money, they have to be murderous thugs, whores and prostitutes.
